Project is creating a public space and community gardens through dynamic temporary design: …"Facility service area is a mobile building transformed from containers, with kitchen, bathroom, bar and public dining space. Public activity area is a public space that integrates bicycle parking, education and other functions. Through parent-child participation, people are mobilized to participate in community construction and maintenance…Public farming area provides farming areas for citizens to participate in, mainly planting suitable vegetables and traditional crops in Shanghai to restore the natural style of rural areas. In the form of community activities, interactive gardening area recruit's community and non-community personnel to participate in the layout, planting and maintenance activities, so that citizens can build and share the public garden". The project describing the inspiring concept with original character and strong social impact. The Water House and Chang Li Park projects offering additional ideas for good working social spaces. Urban public gaps and liminal spaces creating interesting linear garden "full of life"- elegant lineal and zig-zag shaped structure in the city full of expandable pocket spaces.
Function
Moving through - one dimensional landscape offers interesting spatial experience and parallel path to to existing pedestrian pavement at the same time. Using climate-friendly elements this project promising pleasant atmosphere for users and stimulates community participation.
Openess
New linear Park-like structure unifying metropolitan atmosphere with innovative walking areas, providing green design solution also in the small scale. Urban context, green Infrastructure and master plan offering logical link and network inside the bigger city area. "It will transform the gap zone of 6 to 8 meters wide and narrow from the edge of the community to the central garden of the community, and become an urban liminal space for people to carry out public activities."
Feasibility
Expanding the linear boundary of urban infrastructure for public space could be seen as a is a new invention of liminal urban place.

- Prof.JADRIC
The Shanghai 1's project, "the outer wall renovation of apartments" is a great proposal that can solve the problem of gated society as well as the creation of public spaces. This public wall project is a meaningful proposal not only for Chinese cities but also for Korean cities such as Seoul and Busan, which consist of large-scale apartment development. However, we got only one pilot project you have shown, it is still difficult to estimate how much the same project can be implemented in the city. I would like to ask this team to collect other walls in the Shanghai area that can implement the same project. so that we can assume how the public wall project could expand in Shanghai.

Creativity
Empty former infrastructure as liminal spaces. Heyang Railway, an intermediate state of uncertainty, becoming a liminal space in time, where various indeterminate activities and functions take place. Project is focuses on one of the typical topics of the former industrial areas – reuse of railway infrastructure. The current Wujiaochang Underpass as an urban liminal space - not only a stopover among several defined spaces, but also a landmark in the whole surrounding area where people can take a short rest, admire the urban scenery, as well as conduct transit transfer. Chunyang Lane (Lilong) has been chosen as the third liminal space to be analyzed.
Function
Moving through-linear landscape offers spatial experience and connections to existing areas at the same time. Pedestrian friendly design of this project offering potential for the future users.
Openess
The concept is interesting, but offers a number of criticisms, among others in inadequate or underdeveloped design elements. Expectations of sufficient interaction between public space and the environment are not always met. Potential of green in all three areas should be more in focus of design of public facilities.
Feasibility
Recycling of heavy urban infrastructure promising the regeneration of contemporary cities, identifying their spaces as liminal urban places. Nota bene: Design could be more specific and precisely developed for the particular area.

- Prof.JADRIC
I see this teams interprets the dictionary meaning of liminal space is somewhat negative and it means abandoned space. The project is considered to be related to the possibility of overcoming using spaces with unclear ownership or unclear use. Compared with an interesting start with aesthetics and psychology. The selecting projects and solving method are rather related to rational comprehensive planning. To be honest, There are many parts that I don't understand well about Shanghai 2's project yet. Please help us undestand more through your presentation.

Creativity
Project is creating a public space and community garden through harmonious and innovative design. The project offer a strong concept with unique character and link to existing green axis. Series of crossings and interesting landscape projects offering additional potential for creativity. Empty urban public liminal spaces creating very interesting and innovative urban figure - elegant lineal structure in the best tradition of hystorical and architectural visions of future. Project is focuses on one of the crucial topics of our time - energy and climate change.
Function
Moving through-linear landscape offers spatial experience and connections to existing green areas at the same time. Using climate-friendly design and distinctive and elegantly designed element, this project promising pleasant atmosphere for users.
Openess
New linear Park-like structure unifying metropolitan atmosphere with high quality green areas, providing design solution also in the human scale. Urban context, Green Infrastructure and Master Plan offering logical link and network inside the bigger city area. Common areas are designed precisely with nice details. Green areas are more than ever in focus through design of public facilities.
Feasibility
Sustainable development direction could be an interesting alternative model for the future public space areas. Recycling of heavy urban infrastructure promising the regeneration of contemporary cities, identifying their spaces as liminal urban places. Nota bene: Design could be more specific and precisely developed for the particular area.

- Prof.JADRIC
The linear form of the city has always been an exciting topic and formed many interesting design suggestions as the team has diligently researched. And due to the latest release of Saudi Arabia's 'Line Project,' linear urban formation has been discussed more than ever with much-heated discussion. Saudi's 'Line Project' proposal is lacking many urban possibilities. This research has so many opportunities that can inform many that can both embrace the organic nature of modern cities through historical research and physical observation. The research explores various liminal spaces adjacent to the 12km long ring road used by medium-high speed automobiles. This kind of fact moving highway always divides the city, but this research looks for ways to give this ring road back into the city. To do this, several 'elephants in the room' must be addressed boldly. Transitioning from this high-speed road into the adjacent slow-moving area takes specific work. Currently, underground tunnel construction is the popular solution to do this without affecting the major urban transportation traffic artery. Suppose this solution is too invasive. In that case, the selective introduction of traffic lights and lowering the speed limits for a specific area for one particular duration of time can be considered. Solving this issue is the first technical step. In the movie, the team introduces long-term and short-term uses separately, which I found very interesting. If the team considers specific patterns between these two different programs and how they are connected can be analyzed, this can be developed to be its research topic. After reading and watching this team's work, new questions on public spaces adjacent to high-speed ring roads came up: What is the appropriate density? How should the highway transition to the public space be? What is the proper relationship between long-term spaces and short-term spaces? If the team tries to answer these questions, the project will succeed.

The video consists of framing the pages of the text that is being read. The video is therefore considered to be undelivered. The text begins recalling the Ringstrasse in Vienna, but does not go on to explain how the concept of urban liminal spaces is to be understood. The following part of the text lists 4 spaces in Vienna that are not located on a map and that seem to be very heterogeneous (an open space, a housing estate, an island park, a metro station). The lack of notes, bibliographical references, drawings, maps, explanations and objectives weakens the quality of the presentation.

Thanks to the Donau River and Ringstrasse, Vienna has ample and diverse public space. When planning public spaces by public institutions, the plan tend to have the premise of active use. Shopping, watching a performance, sitting on café are all pleasant entertainments. but sometimes staying in public space without active uses is disturbing and uncomfortable. The park in front of the palace and the museum is so public that it seems rather to prohibit personal activities. how to understnad "liminal space" for every team a problem. some team interpret the liminal space as public owned/private owned land, and some interprets private activites in public space/public activities in private space. The narrowest interpretation is to limit the "liminal space" to abandoned space.

The concept of urban liminal spaces adopted by the authors fits into the general framework proposed by the workshop, and is sufficiently clearly explained in the text. At the end of the background on the urban condition of Busan, it is said that the future public space could be created by developing the areas below, under or trespassing the road infrastructure in the city. This is an interesting hypothesis, which refers to the main findings of the research areas relevant to this topic, and would deserve to be further developed. Unfortunately, it is not explained how and why, in order to focus on the linearity of urban liminal spaces, the six areas were chosen. Nor do the text and the video explain the methodological value of the catalogue as a tool for exploring the potential of some underused urban areas. At the beginning of the video, the six schemas of the areas do not situate them in the city, so that it is not possible to evaluate where they are located and what are the relationships between these areas and between the six areas and the city. At the end of the video, the summary attempt to outline the common features between the areas, but it remains at the most basic level, without questioning how the uses relate to the urban and built form, an important aspect that remains undiscussed. The text has no bibliography nor references.
- Prof.Zeila TESORIERE
This team does many works to seek cataloging the liminal spaces in Busan and six are finded. Those six spots have their own charateristics. No one is same to another. The video is made perfect and clear to introduce those six spaces. For this team, I suggest to consider the spatial design. The spece of those six spots are all a little rough. For the Oncheoncheon Stream where I have been many years ago, the space has not enough eco-elements and the hard pavement is too much and the space for public communication is not enough. For the Old Dongrae station, the cultural elements are not expressed well. For the Gwangalli Beach, no spatial design is. For the Suyeong Riverside, what is the key role of it. For the Huinnyeoul Culture Village, how to coordinate the use of visitors and locals. For the B-Con Ground, how to improve its spatial quality. The above comments are just the thinking-guiding for this team. Could we type those six spots to two or three?

The text does not show a real understanding of the theme under study: there is no explanation of the concept of urban liminal spaces adopted by the authors, nor of the catalogue as a tool for exploring the potential of some underused urban areas. Both the text and the video result in a list of photos and analytical data concerning the 6 areas took into account, without explaining why. The video presents some few urban scheme concerning the areas, without framing them in a whole. The morphological and architectural dimension of the liminal areas considered remains unquestioned. Some images in the text have pagination errors. The text has no bibliography or references, and the structure of the video lacks conclusions and objectives..

this team finds six liminal space and names a phrase “When the Show ends”, a little romantic. The pdf is not formatted well so that I could not read all terms for those six spots. Anyway I feel the good atmosphere of those six spaces. The members type them into two catalog, linear and spot. they also summarize the function and special characteristics of them. The work is worthy to apprase. For the work oof next step. I suggest the team to think over how to improve the spatial quality and how to improve the usage of people.is there any way to activate the surroundings by the spatial design of those liminal space?

Public bath in urban space is a fascinating subject. The philosophical paradox of the room being the most private and public space is an interesting philosophical subject. To properly analyze the room, the researcher should think more deeply about the psychological procedure of urban users who regularly use this space. The research is divided into two parts: The first part being the macro study on the rise and fall of the public bath in Oita and its relationship to the demography and economy. The second part is studying the physical space and its sequential experience. Both parts are fascinating, but both parts need deeper investigation. To connect the macro study to the architectural experience, factors that the cause-and-effect can relate to can be worth looking into. For example, as the user group's average age is increasing, the increased issue of barrier-free design or increased opportunity for sitting in various spaces might be a relevant connection between the demographic study and architectural elements. The culture of being soaked into the warm water and engaging in the public activity of sharing stories can also be broken down into several psychological factors. This breakdown can lead to an alternative design suggestion that maintains all the values through updated design and material usage better suited to the changed economic situation.
- Prof.JIN Geojin
public baths is a traditional activity for people's health cleanning and social communication. The public baths custum in Japan is very similar to that in China in the past decades. In fact the social communication and related activities in East Asian countries are very normal in the near history, such as drama watching in the stage where the public space has multi fuctions including fun, meeting and assembly. As for the public baths where the space also has multi functions. People could chat and exchange their own information. This shapes people’s social life. Now the population is aging in Japan and this liminal space is marginal and fading. It is a challenge for the traditional cultural conservation. How to conserve this meaningful custom and its space needs smart policy making and action. Why not to open your mind to the wider thinking, such as the industry regeneration or revitalization, tourism promoting, government intervention, etc. additionally the space of public baths in Beppu looks a little out of fashion. So, why not to think to redesign the space to make it active, fashionable, modern and attractive. The more people would be attracted by the new design, then the public baths might be a new tourism spot. Also, we could think the role of the web. Why not to make the public baths in Beppu to be an internet-focus spot? and why not to typolozize the space of public baths in beppu.

The group has chosen three representative urban liminal spaces in Shanghai:
1.Knowledge & Innovation Community Garden located in Yangpu District of Shanghai,
2.Changli Garden located in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, and the
3.Micro-regeneration of Waterhouse located in Huangpu District of Shanghai.
..."Shanghai's micro-updates are mainly focused on the following areas: street interface and node improvement, neighborhood centers and community gardens, residual space transformation and similar. The promotion of urban public culture through micro-creations stimulates community and cultural exchange, and the stories of ordinary spaces and their users are recorded and displayed simultaneously with important histories."
The first two examples are interesting, although the community garden and the waterhouse can only be partially understood as liminal spaces. They are more "commons" than anything else. In lineal Gardens, the idea of the boundary, which acquires the characteristics of the space between individual functions, is by far the most interesting of all three examples. The chapter "Discussion" was not necessary in my opinion, it was better to focus on the evaluation of three charged examples than to find precedents for liminal space in typical organization of domestic architecture.

- Prof.JADRIC
It is a great suggestion for a modern interpretation of the guest space of traditional Chinese houses. It is thought to be an architectural alternative that can alleviate the problems of modern society, where personalization and social separation are gradually intensifying. By adding an explanation that was not in the first presentation, the proposal became more persuasive. In Korea, there was a guest space called Sarangbang (man-room) in traditional houses, and in the 1990s, there was a movement of semi-public plan called Alpha Room in Japan's housing complex. The Shanghai 1 team found a part that inherits the tradition of guest space planning in East Asia.

Due to the limitation of space, the liminal space in Lilong is produced by the daily behavior of the residents, such as planting, hanging clothes, cooking, forming a special public and private relationship…The design team transformed the inefficient community room into a shared kitchen and living room, and the neighborhood committee developed a system of shared space rental and volunteer services. This makes "eating" and "meeting" a link to the daily life of the residents.
The project describes, in my opinion, examples of alienation and appropriation of public space. I wonder if with this action it ceases to be a liminal space, because it loses its characteristics.
Appropriation In some cases, can make the same place at one time liminal and at other times not. Other places may feel like liminal spaces regardless of the time of day or year you visit them.
Differences in the analysis with a large and small scale is inadequate, it is unnecessary to move with such a large scale in order to reach the human scale. It was better to leave more precise places for the analysis of not only the nerrow streets and "voids" but also the surrounding / linking areas (boundaries). On the other hand, this domestication of common space in a type of gated community can only be partially called liminal space.

- Prof.JADRIC
Perhaps because most of China's population lives in warm areas, China has a culture of eating and drinking tea in open spaces. It is believed that a healthy society is maintained because Chinese people naturally share their private activities like lundry or cooking with their neighbors. The Shanghai 2 team analyzed that the overcrowded urban spaces and weakening of communities caused the quality of semi-public spaces to deteriorate. Conversely, the Shanghai 2 team suggests that improving this semi-public space can promote community. The analysis and suggestions have been very concrete since the first publication.

Along the Ringroad of Palermo the group identify a series of large and almost empty spaces. They are public and entirely owned by the municipally, whose claimed regeneration should constitute a realistic possibility for Palermo to activate them as thresholds (limen) to finally reconnect the linear city of the Ringroad with the city of Palermo.
In order to explane the complexity of the intervention and the potential of the project, three areas have been chosen to be analysed in detail: Perpignano, Giotto and Lazio. They displayed elements of intervention in the liminal spaces along the Ringroad and they should be start of spatial transformation of the city of Palermo.
Climate regulation through a dense urban forest, with large trees to create shading spots, and specific urban furniture between the plants, trees and water. Along the area, small low-density multi-functional pavilions assure necessary infrastructure.
The spatial transformation of these areas would define a visual, acoustic, and practical transition from the high speed of the carriageways to the low speed of the surrounding minor areas and roads. The presence of draining soil along the areas would also contribute to a better use of the surfaces, introducing rainwater storage. In addition, the presence of a recurring green density, through different types of vegetation. Nota bene: Critic (if any) would be the question: what if in the future clean, electric powered cars replace the engines we have now, so many of the emissions: noise, dust, etc. become obsolete?

The design direction proposal of providing the gradient from public to private experience for the bath is fascinating. I was able to perfectly agree on the logical process to get to the solution. Based on the demographic research that the decrease of the previous local user soundly proved that the existing infrastruction needs to be used by the outer users, such as young people to needs daily recovery or tourist who would like a local interaction. The team's address of the actual liminal space upon the research above is seamlessly connected. The gradient experience of the water from public to private and the stepped entrance communication space will work as a great improvement for not only for these spaces but also for the community. I recommend the team to develop this idea and make official proposal for the local government to realize this idea.
