[Research Interest]
- Interpretation of the Design of Traditional Architecture: Discover and interpret the universal principles of traditional timber structure and specific design intentions, focusing on Korean architecture. Through a variety of sources, including existing/disappeared buildings, literature, and art, we explore contemporary perceptions and social conventions of architectural activities and outcomes, as well as attempts at innovation, to create diverse interpretations of traditional architecture. As an extension of this research, we are also exploring contemporary architectural designs that are in search of an inheritance of tradition and localism.
- Conservation and Exhibition Curation of Architectural Heritage : We explore methodologies for the sustainable conservation of architectural heritage in contemporary society and examine exhibition curation as a means of this conservation. The scope of architectural heritage includes not only existing old buildings, but also texts, drawings, photographs, models and sketches that reproduce specific buildings, as well as archaeological remains of which only traces remain. Exhibition curation is the creative process of collecting, studying and evaluating architectural heritage that contributes to the public consumption and enjoyment of architectural heritage.
