Rapid urbanization brougth environmental and social changes in the Human settlement. As cities were expended and use of space was reformed, land price of central area increased and many residential areas were removed and relocated to suburb duw to development pressure. This also caused imbalance of urban space such as informal residential district included in city area, and inhumane life environment with spatial structure cutting off existing socio-physical relations. Morever, countless gated communities disconnected these relations with surroundings, have been built as new residential facilities, brough about social tendency prioritize capital than relations between human. Thus, critical social issues related with problems of social justice and social space at the modern urban environment used to be rised. Social space in the traditional villages, which has harmonizing relation with the context of community affairs used to be found in the many society with long history. We can find villages in the rural area has history of responsive and resilient community with pleasant peoples in Asian and European countries. Expecially, the villages in china and Italy could be considered as good examples to observe these relations between social relations and spatial structure because they have abundant socio-spatial legacy by long history. In SSL, already various survey of more than tweenty villages in China were performed during last ten years. SSL will visit some italian villages for the comparative research with Korean and Chinese at 2021.

우리가 사는 도시와 마을에는 사람과 건물들이 섞여 있습니다. 사람들 간에는 커뮤니티라는 관계망이 존재하고 이러한 관계들과 건축물의 사이에는 다양한 공간과 장소들이 만들어집니다. 따라서 건강한 사회를 위해서는 이들 간의 조화로운 관계가 매우 중요합니다. 부조화는 사회적인 갈등을 유발하기 때문입니다. 본 연구실에서는 도시와 마을의 공간과 그 사회적 역할과 관련된 주제에 집중하고 있습니다. 도시의 공간과 장소들은 사회와 커뮤니티에 다양한 영향을 미치게 되며 여기에는 역시 다양한 사회공간적인 요소들이 작용합니다. 우리 연구실에서는 도시나 마을공간의 형태나 구조가 이러한 다양한 요소들과 어떠한 관계를 가지며 사회와 커뮤니티에 어떠한 영향을 미치게 되는지를 조사하고 사회와 커뮤니티의 관계들을 증진시키는 공간과 장소의 관계에 대해 연구를 합니다. 지금은 마을의 사회적 공간에 관한 한중공동연구(연구재단)를 마무리중이며 유럽 이탈리아 마을과의 비교 연구를 시작하였습니다. 대부분의 건강한 커뮤니티를 유지하고 있는 오래된 마을은 나름의 훌륭한 사회적 공간구조를 가지고 있습니다. 지금도 많은 사람들이 살고 있는 마을에서 공간구조와 장소들을 통해서 건강한 커뮤니티를 지원하는 사회적 공간구조를 찾아볼 수 있습니다. 우리의 주변에는 아직 이러한 마을들이 많이 있습니다. 해외의 동료학자들과 함께 이러한 마을의 사회적 공간구조를 탐색하는 공동연구를 통하여 마을의 커뮤니티와 환경개선을 위한 많은 연구자료를 생산하고 있으며 . 중국의 20_30여개 마을을 조사하였으며, 올해부터 유럽의 오래된 마을을 대상으로 사회적 공간구조를 조사할 계획입니다. 아울러 전지구적 관점의 건강한 사회공간을 위하여 커뮤니티 리질리언스와 지역의 적정기술의 실체와 가치와 같은 다양한 주요주제에 대해서도 연구하고 있습니다.
